About

North Dakotans to Stop Animal Cruelty is a coalition of animal shelters, veterinarians, pet rescues, animal control officers, and other citizens working for an animal cruelty law that reflects North Dakota values.

In North Dakota we have a heritage of farming, ranching, and a variety of other practices that involve animals. It is our tradition and responsibility to treat the animals we depend on with respect, yet our animal cruelty laws have not kept pace with the times. We now have one of the weakest animal cruelty laws in the nation.

North Dakota is one of only two states that punishes even the most extreme forms of animal cruelty as a mere misdemeanor.

North Dakotans to Stop Animal Cruelty is supporting efforts to get meaningful animal welfare reform passed in the 2013 legislative session. It is our hope the legislature will bring our laws in line with our values.
